Théla Is Not a Generalist Practice
Every service we offer is delivered by clinicians with specific, deep training in that area — not broad familiarity. Whether you are navigating trauma, relationship breakdown, neurodivergence, a complex mental health diagnosis, or a life that has quietly stopped working, you will find clinicians here who have worked extensively in that territory and know how to move through it with you.
We offer virtual therapy across Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, and in-person sessions at our Markham clinic. Evening and weekend availability. Direct billing to major insurance providers. EAP referrals accepted.
Not sure which service fits your situation? A free 15-minute consultation is the fastest way to find out.
Individual Therapy for Adults
Virtual across Ontario, BC, Saskatchewan, & Alberta | In-person in Markham | English, Mandarin & Cantonese
One-on-one psychotherapy for adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, OCD, ADHD, BPD, addiction, life transitions, grief, burnout, identity, cultural adjustment, and relationship difficulties. Sessions are tailored to your history, your nervous system, and the pace that actually works for you — not a standardized protocol applied regardless of who you are.
Our adult therapy services draw from EMDR, IFS, EFT, DBT, CBT, ACT, somatic and polyvagal-informed approaches, narrative therapy, and sand tray — integrated thoughtfully rather than applied by formula.

EMDR Therapy
Virtual across Ontario, BC & Alberta | In-person in Markham | With Bonny and Charlie
EMDR — Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing — is one of the most extensively researched trauma therapies available. It works not by talking through what happened, but by helping the brain finish processing experiences it couldn't process at the time. The results for PTSD, complex trauma, and experiences that feel stuck despite other forms of therapy are well-documented and often profound.
Bonny's EMDR training includes EMDRIA-approved training and a Certificate in Traumatic Stress Studies through the Trauma Research Foundation, founded by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk.
EMDR Intensive Therapy
Théla is one of the few psychotherapy practices in York Region offering EMDR Intensive programs — concentrated half-day sessions (around 3 hours) that condense weeks of standard trauma processing into focused, structured work. Ideal for clients who want to accelerate their healing, have limited availability for weekly sessions, or are preparing for a significant life event. All Intensive clients complete a free 15-minute screening call before booking.
Trauma & PTSD Therapy
Virtual across Ontario, BC, Alberta & Saskatchewan | In-person in Markham
Trauma doesn't always look dramatic from the outside. For many people it looks like hypervigilance, shutdown, difficulty trusting, or a persistent sense that something is wrong with them — when in fact their nervous system learned, very wisely, how to survive. We work with adults and teens navigating complex and developmental trauma, single-incident trauma and PTSD, relational and attachment trauma, immigration and refugee trauma, legal and systemic trauma, domestic violence, and racial trauma.

Somatic & Nervous System Therapy
Virtual across Ontario, BC & Alberta | In-person in Markham
Trauma and chronic stress don't only live in memory — they live in the body. Somatic and polyvagal-informed approaches build awareness of the body's role in emotional experience, helping you understand your own nervous system and expand your capacity to feel safe.

ADHD Therapy
Virtual across Ontario, BC, Alberta & Saskatchewan
ADHD therapy addresses the emotional and psychological dimensions of living with ADHD — the shame, the relational impact, the underlying nervous-system dysregulation that so often accompanies it. This is clinical work that goes beyond surface-level productivity tips.
With: Charlie and Bonny
Addiction & Substance Use Therapy
Virtual across Ontario, BC, Alberta & Saskatchewan
Support for questioning your substance use, early recovery, relapse, and the relationships affected along the way — including partners and family members impacted by someone else's use. This work looks at both the substance use itself and what it's often been managing underneath it: anxiety, trauma, depression, or chronic stress.

Anxiety Therapy
Virtual across Ontario, BC, Alberta & Saskatchewan
Anxiety shows up differently for everyone — overthinking, perfectionism, panic, procrastination, or looking completely capable while feeling overwhelmed inside. We offer two distinct approaches depending on what fits you:
Charlie works with anxiety where it intersects with ADHD, neurodivergence, and nervous-system dysregulation.
Jennifer works with anxiety and OCD using a solution-focused, existentially-informed approach, and also supports couples where anxiety has become a pattern the relationship organizes around.
Couples Therapy
Virtual across Ontario, BC & Alberta | In-person in Markham | English, Mandarin & Cantonese
Couples therapy at Théla draws on the Gottman Method (Levels 1 & 2 trained) and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) — two of the most research-supported approaches to couples therapy in the world. We work with couples navigating recurring conflict, emotional disconnection, cultural differences, trust ruptures, infidelity, and relationships affected by substance use.

Child Therapy (Ages 8–11)
Virtual across Ontario | In-person in Markham | English, Mandarin & Cantonese
Developmentally adapted therapy for children who can participate in age-appropriate conversation and structured therapeutic activities — supporting anxiety, big emotions, family changes, divorce, self-esteem, and neurodivergence. This is not a specialized play-therapy service; it's designed for children old enough to engage in structured, adapted conversation and skills work directly.
Teen Therapy (Ages 12–17)
Virtual across Ontario | In-person in Markham | English, Mandarin & Cantonese
Specialized, developmentally appropriate therapy for teenagers navigating anxiety, depression, academic stress, social difficulties, identity, family conflict, trauma, and neurodivergent challenges including ADHD and autism. Sessions are teen-led and confidential within legal limits, with parent consultation included as clinically appropriate.
Family Therapy
Virtual across Ontario | In-person in Markham | English, Mandarin & Cantonese
For when the difficulty isn't located in one person, but in the pattern between family members — parent-child conflict, communication breakdown, blended-family dynamics, separation and divorce, and the particular pressures multicultural and multigenerational families navigate.
Women's Mental Health
Virtual across Ontario, BC & Alberta | In-person in Markham
Specialized support for infertility and the emotional impact of reproduction, pregnancy loss and perinatal mental health, postpartum depression and anxiety, perimenopause and hormonal transitions, and the compounding pressures of career, identity, and cultural expectations.
With: Charlie and Jennifer
Complex Mental Health
We support clients experiencing conditions that are often mismanaged or misunderstood elsewhere — not just diagnosed and referred out.
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
DBT-informed treatment combined with trauma processing and emotion-focused work, for clients who want to go deeper than symptom management. A core area of focus for Bonny.
Bipolar Disorder & Mood Disorders
Collaborative therapy supporting insight, treatment adherence, and early identification of mood shifts.
OCD (ERP)
Exposure and Response Prevention, the gold-standard psychological treatment for OCD.
Dissociation
Support for feeling disconnected, unreal, or detached from yourself or your experiences, particularly where it intersects with complex trauma.
Grief & Bereavement
Virtual across Ontario, BC, Saskatchewan, & Alberta | In-person in Markham | English, Mandarin & Cantonese
Support for grief of all kinds — including losses that don't always get social permission to be recognized: miscarriage and reproductive loss, estrangement, ambiguous loss, and grief compounded by other significant life stressors.
With: Bonny
Canine-Assisted Therapy
In-person at our Markham clinic only
Emma and Evee (Bernese Mountain Dog and Bernedoodle) are active members of the clinical team, not simply a warm presence in the room — particularly supportive for clients managing trauma, emotional dysregulation, and difficulty connecting verbally with a therapist. Sessions without them are always available for anyone who prefers that.
