Bonny, MA, EdD (Cand.)
Complex Trauma • BPD • Couples & Families • Neurodivergent Teens In-Person in Markham & Virtual Across Ontario English • Cantonese • Mandarin
Bonny is Théla's founder and a psychotherapist who works particularly with complex trauma, borderline personality disorder (BPD), emotional dysregulation, attachment and relationship difficulties, neurodivergent teens, couples, and families.
She often works with clients who have developed considerable insight into themselves but still experience intense emotions, trauma responses, dissociation, relationship cycles, or a nervous system that seems to react before the thinking brain has time to catch up.
Bonny's integrative approach draws from EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), DBT-informed skills, Emotionally Focused Therapy, attachment-based approaches, and somatic and nervous-system work. Therapy is adapted to the person rather than expecting every client to fit one model.
She also works with couples and families experiencing recurring conflict, communication difficulties, attachment wounds, trust concerns, changing family roles, and complex relational dynamics.
Bonny is currently Théla's in-person therapist in Markham, with virtual appointments also available across Ontario. Therapy is available in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
Best fit for: Complex trauma, BPD, emotional regulation, EMDR, somatic and nervous-system work, couples therapy, family therapy, attachment concerns, and neurodivergent teens.
Also available: In-person animal-assisted therapy with Théla's therapy dogs for appropriate clients who may benefit from their presence during psychotherapy.
Charlie, RP
EMDR • Trauma & PTSD • Neurodivergence • LGBTQ+ Affirming Virtual Across Ontario
Charlie provides trauma-informed therapy for adults navigating trauma and PTSD, ADHD and neurodivergence, LGBTQ+ identity and experiences, chronic pain and health-related stress, nervous-system dysregulation, and burnout.
Her work may be particularly helpful if you understand what's happening intellectually but find that your body, emotions, or nervous system continue to react as though something isn't safe. She supports clients who may feel stuck in patterns of hypervigilance, shutdown, overwhelm, disconnection, or chronic stress — including when these experiences intersect with neurodivergence, identity, relationships, or physical health.
Charlie integrates EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), attachment-based therapy, somatic approaches, nervous-system and polyvagal-informed work, and neurodivergent-affirming care. Her approach works with both what you understand cognitively and what your body may still be carrying.
She also provides LGBTQ+ affirming therapy, creating space to explore identity, sexuality, relationships, coming out, family dynamics, belonging, and life transitions without treating gender or sexual diversity as something that needs to be changed.
For clients living with chronic pain or persistent physical symptoms, Charlie offers psychological support around the emotional and nervous-system impact of pain, including changes in functioning, identity, relationships, stress, and burnout.
Best fit for: EMDR, trauma and PTSD, ADHD and neurodivergence, LGBTQ+ affirming therapy, chronic pain and health-related stress, somatic and nervous-system work, and burnout.
Jennifer Gibbons, MA, RP (Qualifying)
Addiction & Substance Use • Recovery • Trauma • Couples Virtual Across Ontario
Jennifer offers individual and couples therapy with a particular focus on substance use, addiction recovery, relapse prevention, trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationships affected by addiction.
She brings experience working with adults in a specialized intensive treatment setting for substance use disorders, informing her understanding of addiction, recovery, relapse prevention, and the complexity of making lasting changes.
Jennifer's approach is collaborative and non-judgmental. You don't need to identify as having an addiction, be completely ready to change, or have already achieved sobriety before reaching out.
She integrates Motivational Interviewing, harm-reduction principles, relapse-prevention planning, trauma-informed therapy, solution-focused therapy, and person-centred approaches to help clients understand both the behaviour they want to change and what that behaviour may have been doing for them.
Jennifer also works with couples navigating the impact of substance use or recovery on trust, communication, boundaries, intimacy, and connection.
Best fit for: Substance use, addiction recovery, relapse prevention, trauma and addiction, anxiety or depression connected to substance use, and couples affected by addiction.
Ciaran, MACP Candidate, RP (Qualifying)
ADHD • Anxiety • Self-Esteem • Teens & Young Adults Virtual Across Ontario
Ciaran offers individual therapy for teens, young adults, and adults, with a particular focus on ADHD, anxiety, self-esteem and identity, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and life transitions.
She brings a personal understanding of what it's like to navigate anxiety, perfectionism, and the pressure to hold everything together, which informs how she connects with clients facing similar patterns. She has also completed additional training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy specifically tailored for ADHD, supporting a neurodivergent-affirming approach to her work.
Ciaran's approach is warm, collaborative, and non-judgmental. You don't need to have a diagnosis, know exactly what's wrong, or have things figured out before reaching out — sessions move at a pace that feels manageable for you.
She integrates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Strengths-Based Therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches to help clients understand both their patterns and what those patterns may be protecting them from.
Ciaran is currently completing her practicum at Théla under clinical supervision. She offers her first 12 sessions at no cost, then $20 per session where continued therapy is available and clinically appropriate.
Best fit for: ADHD, anxiety, self-esteem and identity, perfectionism and people-pleasing, life transitions, and teens or young adults looking for an affordable entry point into therapy.
Not Sure Who to Choose?
You don't need to know which therapeutic approach you need or perfectly explain what's happening before reaching out.
Tell us a little about what you're looking for — including your concerns, preferred language, whether you're looking for individual, couples, family, or teen therapy, and whether you prefer virtual or in-person sessions.
We'll help you identify which Théla therapist may be the best fit.

Animal-Assisted Therapy in Markham
In-Person With Bonny
For clients who find animals grounding, comforting, or helpful for connection, Bonny offers animal-assisted psychotherapy with Théla's therapy dogs during select in-person sessions in Markham.
The presence of a therapy dog can provide another source of connection and grounding during psychotherapy, particularly for clients who may find traditional face-to-face conversation intense or who benefit from sensory and nervous-system support.
Animal-assisted therapy may be incorporated alongside Bonny's broader therapeutic work when appropriate and is always based on client preference, comfort, allergies, and clinical suitability.
In-Person Therapy in Markham
Prefer meeting your therapist face-to-face?
Bonny currently provides Théla's in-person psychotherapy appointments in Markham, including individual, couples, family, and teen therapy.
In-person sessions may also include animal-assisted therapy when appropriate and requested.
