Individual Therapy for Adults

A space to understand what you're experiencing, what keeps repeating, and what you want to change.

You don't need to be in crisis to come to therapy.

You might know exactly what you want help with — anxiety, ADHD, trauma, relationships, addiction, chronic pain, identity, emotional regulation, or something else.

Or you may simply know:

"I'm overwhelmed." "I don't feel like myself." "I understand my patterns, but I don't know how to change them." "Something isn't working anymore."

Individual therapy gives you dedicated space to understand what's happening and work toward meaningful change with a therapist whose experience fits what you're looking for.

This page is for adults. If you're looking for support for a child (ages 8–11) or teen (ages 12–17), visit our Child Therapy or Teen Therapy pages instead. To see all therapy formats we offer, visit Services.

Théla offers virtual individual therapy across Ontario, with select therapists also serving British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. In-person individual therapy is available in Markham.

What Does Individual Therapy Look Like?

Individual therapy isn't simply having someone listen while you talk.

Your therapist will work collaboratively with you to understand what brings you to therapy, what you want to be different, and what may be keeping current patterns in place.

Some sessions may involve exploring experiences and emotions. Others may be practical and skills-focused. You might examine relationship patterns, work with thoughts or beliefs, notice what happens in your body, process trauma, develop emotional regulation strategies, or explore different parts of yourself.

What therapy looks like depends on you, your goals, and your therapist's approach.

What If I've Already Tried Therapy?

Starting with another therapist doesn't mean starting from zero.

You may already understand yourself well. Perhaps you've learned CBT or DBT skills but struggle to access them when you're activated. Maybe you've talked extensively about your past but still experience the same reactions. Or perhaps your previous therapist simply wasn't the right fit.

Tell us what you've already tried, what helped, and what didn't. That information can help us determine what might be different this time.

Our Approach to Individual Therapy

We don't use one method for everyone. We use what works for you. Our therapists are trained in several evidence-based approaches — and we'll explain what each one means in plain language.
